Most dictation apps upload audio, which means another company to assess and another agreement to sign.
The desktop edition many clinicians used ended in 2018.
Hold right ⌘, talk the way you think, let go. Murmur drops the fillers, applies your corrections and types the result at your cursor.
“client reports um sleep improved to about six hours, uses the breathing exercise most nights”

“new paragraph, plan uh continue weekly sessions, review sleep diary next visit”

Fillers out, punctuation in. Say “new paragraph” for a break.
Medications, abbreviations and colleagues go in the Dictionary.
Letters start in Formal. Verbatim skips AI rewriting entirely.

Test it in Airplane Mode with an invented note first.
Dictation audio is transcribed on your Mac and discarded, and Murmur doesn’t upload your audio or text. Murmur isn’t certified against HIPAA or any other standard, and we don’t sign BAAs, so ask your privacy or compliance officer whether it fits your obligations. History keeps your last 500 dictations on the Mac: clear it, and use FileVault and a screen lock.

Better you hear it here than after you buy.
IT may block the permissions Murmur needs, and decides what you can install.
For visits recorded and notes drafted for you, look at clinical scribe products made and contracted for that.
A general model misses more drug names and eponyms; the Dictionary helps, but it isn’t a medical lexicon.
There’s no admin console for a practice either.
We don’t claim that. Compliance belongs to a practice’s whole workflow, not to one app, and we don’t certify Murmur against any standard or sign Business Associate Agreements. What we can state is what the app does: speech is transcribed on the Mac, and Murmur doesn’t upload your audio or text. Ask your privacy or compliance officer whether that fits your obligations.
Murmur types into whatever text field has the cursor, so web-based EHRs in Safari or Chrome generally work like any other web form. We haven’t tested Epic, or any EHR running through Citrix or a remote desktop, so try those with the free words before you rely on it.
Not out of the box. Murmur uses general speech models, not a medical one. Add the drug names, abbreviations and colleagues’ names you use to the Dictionary, and use Replacements for terms that keep coming out wrong. Always read the note before you sign it.
It isn’t an ambient scribe. Murmur is built for you dictating, and for notes on calls you choose to record. It can record an in-person conversation, but don’t use that with patients unless your organization approves it and the patient consents.
Nuance ended Dragon Professional for Mac in 2018. Dragon Medical One is a separate, cloud-based product sold to organizations; check with Nuance or your IT team for its Mac support.
History keeps your last 500 dictations; delete entries or clear it in History. If you use meeting notes, transcripts stay until you delete them, and recordings are deleted after 7 days by default. Use FileVault and a screen lock, and follow your organization’s rules for devices holding patient information.
