Explain the bug out loud.

Hold right ⌘ and describe the change. The prompt lands in Claude Code, Cursor or the terminal, and your speech is processed on your Mac.

Where typing gets in the way.

01

Agents need context

A good prompt names the file, the symptom, the constraint and the check, and typed prompts get cut short.

02

Jargon breaks generic dictation

Kubernetes, pnpm and your own service names come out as English words.

03

Some work can’t go to another cloud

Some teams can’t send descriptions of unreleased code to a third-party vendor.

Say it messy.
Get it clean.

Hold right ⌘, talk the way you think, let go. Murmur drops the fillers, applies your corrections and types the result at your cursor.

You say

“the checkout test is flaky um it fails maybe one in five runs, i think the webhook handler races the order insert”

Murmur types in Terminal

The checkout test is flaky. It fails maybe one in five runs; I think the webhook handler races the order insert.

You say

“add a retry with backoff in handle webhook uh but don’t touch the schema, then run the integration tests”

Murmur types in Terminal

Add a retry with backoff in handleWebhook, but don’t touch the schema. Then run the integration tests.

Illustrations of AI polish (macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence), not recorded transcripts. Results vary with your voice and microphone. Terminal starts in Technical style, which keeps code words and skips capitals and periods. These show Natural, which you can pick for Terminal under Styles.

Your prompts stay on your Mac until you send them.

Speech recognition and AI cleanup run on your Mac, and Murmur doesn’t upload your audio or text. The coding agent you paste into may still send your prompt to its own servers, as it always does.

Where it falls short.

Better you hear it here than after you buy.

It isn’t voice coding

No spoken symbols, casing commands or editor navigation: tools like Talon do that.

It doesn’t read your repo

Put the file and service names you say often in the Dictionary.

AI polish needs macOS 26

On macOS 14 and 15 you get Parakeet or Whisper with rule-based cleanup.

Read commands before Return

Speech recognition can mishear a flag, so never run a dictated command without looking.

Questions

Does Claude Code have voice input?

Yes, Claude Code has a built-in /voice command, and our guide covers it. It works inside Claude Code only. A Mac-wide tool like Murmur works in Claude Code and also in the terminal, your editor, the browser and Slack, with the same key and dictionary.

Can I dictate code by voice?

You can, but it’s rarely worth it. Dictation is good at describing intent: what the bug is, what the function should do, what to check. Exact syntax is faster on the keyboard. Murmur’s Technical style keeps identifiers and commands as spoken, but it doesn’t turn speech into camelCase or brackets.

Does it work in the terminal?

Yes. Murmur types into Terminal, iTerm and Warp, which start in Technical style: no sentence capitals and no trailing period. Read any command back before you press Return.

Does my code or prompt leave my Mac?

Not through Murmur. Speech recognition and AI cleanup run on your Mac, and Murmur doesn’t upload your audio or text. The coding agent you paste into may send your prompt to its own servers, as it always does.

How do I get it to spell library names right?

Add them to the Dictionary: Supabase, Kubernetes, pnpm, your service names. In English, Murmur also fixes words that sound like a dictionary entry, such as “cooper nettis” to Kubernetes.

Does Murmur press Return for me?

No. Murmur types the text at the cursor and stops, so nothing runs until you choose. For longer briefs, double-tap right ⌘ for hands-free and talk through the whole plan, then review it before you send.
