Spelling interrupts the thought
Stopping to work out a word is often where the sentence goes.
Hold right ⌘ and talk the way you think, restarts and all. Clean, spelled-right text lands in any app, and it runs on your Mac.

Hi Sam,
I can do Tuesday, but not the morning.
Stopping to work out a word is often where the sentence goes.
Basic speech to text writes down every false start, so cleanup becomes its own task.
A blank page is easy to put off; saying the first few sentences out loud is often easier.
Hold right ⌘, talk the way you think, let go. Murmur drops the fillers, applies your corrections and types the result at your cursor.
“um so I can’t do Tuesday, I mean I can do Tuesday but not the morning”
I can do Tuesday, but not the morning.
“can we, can we do two, two thirty, um whichever works”
Can we do 2:00 or 2:30, whichever works?
Illustrations of AI polish (macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence), not recorded transcripts. Results vary with your voice and microphone.
Corrections like “no wait” are applied, so the text says what you meant.
Add names and places it gets wrong to the Dictionary once.
Select it, hold right ⌥, say what you want. macOS 26.
Double-tap right ⌘ for hands-free. Tap again to finish, or press Esc.
Every dictation stays in History. Wrong window? Paste it again where you are.
Speech recognition and cleanup run on your Mac, and your History is kept there, searchable, not in a cloud account. Murmur isn’t a treatment for anything and hasn’t been tested with other assistive software, so try it with your own writing alongside your current setup.

Opening apps and clicking buttons is what Apple’s Voice Control does.

On macOS 14 and 15, rules remove fillers but don’t restructure sentences.
Many people with dyslexia find it easier to say a sentence than to spell it, and speech to text removes the spelling step. It still helps to read the result back. macOS can read selected text aloud with Spoken Content in Accessibility settings, which pairs well with dictation.
No. Murmur removes “um”, “uh” and repeated words, and when you correct yourself (“at four, no wait, five”) it keeps the correction. Smart mode calls in the AI for corrections, lists and long rambles. The AI part needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence; on older macOS, rules remove fillers but don’t rewrite.
No. Punctuation and capitals are added for you. Say “new paragraph” or “new line” when you want a break.
Every dictation is kept in History on your Mac, so you can find and copy it again. Press Control-Option-V to paste the last dictation where your cursor is now, and say “scratch that” to remove the last one.
No, Murmur only turns speech into text. For text to speech, use the Spoken Content options built into macOS, or a dedicated reading app.
The dictation is kept on Murmur’s Notes page, so the thought isn’t lost. The notch shows when Murmur is listening, and optional live preview shows your words as you speak.
