Most apps upload your audio, so client details pass through a third party you have to vet.
Party names, judges and case names turn into ordinary English words.
Hold right ⌘, talk the way you think, let go. Murmur drops the fillers, applies your corrections and types the result at your cursor.
“call with opposing counsel re um the extension, they agreed to the fourteenth, no wait, the fifteenth”

Next step: confirm in writing and copy the client.

Dictation audio is transcribed on your Mac and discarded, and AI cleanup runs on Apple Intelligence on the Mac. Murmur’s network requests (a model download, an update check you can turn off, a weekly license check) carry no dictation. Murmur holds no security certification, and whether it meets your professional obligations is for you, your bar and your firm to decide.

No. Nuance stopped selling Dragon Professional for Mac on October 22, 2018, and current Dragon desktop editions list Windows only. Mac users choose between Apple Dictation, cloud dictation services and on-device apps like Murmur.
Murmur doesn’t upload your audio or the text you dictate. Speech recognition and AI cleanup run on your Mac. It does connect to the internet to download speech models once, check for updates daily (you can turn that off) and check your license key with our payment provider about once a week. Those requests carry no dictation.
We can tell you what the software does, not what your bar or firm requires. Murmur holds no security certification, and we don’t sign vendor agreements for it. Because dictation stays on the Mac, there’s no dictation vendor in the loop, but your ethics counsel or IT should make that call.
No. Murmur transcribes live: what you say while holding the key, and live calls in meeting notes. It can’t import an audio file. For recordings, use a transcription app or service your firm has approved.
Murmur can take notes on Zoom, Teams, Meet or FaceTime calls without a bot joining, with speaker labels, on your Mac. Recording a call has legal consequences: get consent where the law requires it and follow your firm’s policy. Murmur reminds you when notes start.
Murmur keeps your last 500 dictations in its History on the Mac, so you can find and copy them again. Delete single entries or clear it all, and keep FileVault on.
